Unpacking the 2018 Hospital Digital Experience Index
Each year, PK creates an in-depth benchmarking study entitled the Hospital Digital Experience Index (HDX) comparing and ranking the digital experience of the top fifteen hospitals in the US News & World Report rankings. The Hospital Digital Experience study is a method for baselining the digital customer experience delivered via hospital websites. It combines publicly observable use data and expert testing to spotlight emerging best practices. The goal is to provide healthcare leaders with an objective and informed view they can use to improve the ways they engage their most valuable audiences online. PK shares this research and methodology with healthcare leaders who are advancing digital change and those working to make healthcare more digitally accessible.
We do this because we believe access to care is integral to the patient experience. As a first principal, we believe our ability to care, cure, influence and learn inevitably starts with patient access.
At over seventy pages in length, this year’s report reveals a few changes in the top-ranked digital experiences as well as two types of progress: iterative improvement on longstanding challenges, and new patterns of engagement intended to improve patient access. Armed with multiple years of experience conducting a quantitative and qualitative expert analysis of the top-ranked hospitals, we also provide insight into the pace and examples of change at individual institutions.
