How to be an effective API Product Manager
In light of the Supreme Court’s recent decision that API interfaces can no longer be copyrighted, companies need to rethink what value their APIs deliver to the customer. Is the API contract alone the value? No: the value lies in how well organizations’ APIs address customer wants and needs. The time has come for companies to focus on creating quality APIs, and to do this, they’ll need a specific role dedicated to delivering them: the API Product Manager.
I recently hosted a webinar in which I outlined to participants what API productization is and the capabilities needed to succeed at it. I also introduced the concept of the API Product Manager, why organizations need one to deliver value on their APIs, and what qualities to look for when filling this role.
