Drive Safe and Save app delivers real-time vehicle intelligence
A Verizon Telematics Inc. (VZT) project, the “State Farm Drive Safe & Save” application powered by in-Drive provides services for smartphone devices such as local search, driving data, accident guide, family finder and video content. Certain features such as the accident guide capture GPS based data (location, date, time) and the ability to collect photos, videos and audio about an accident. Once this data is collected, it can be automatically submitted to the insurance company for processing.
Verizon Telematics in-Drive develops smart dongles that integrate with the car’s onboard computer enabling direct interaction with the vehicle. VZT partnered with PK to build companion smartphone apps.
The State Farm Drive Safe & Save technology required more intuitive and friendly user experience enhancements for increased user adoption and customer selling features, providing State Farm customers with accurate and real-time vehicle intelligence. The application requirements included enhanced performance with exceptional predictability and reduced user response time targets to 5 seconds or less. The application architecture and engineering process required more rapid deployments, by platform, to the app stores.
PK was engaged to enhance the overall performance of the Drive Safe & Save application and provide rapid deployments for optimal use. PK enhanced the application vehicle activity by capturing weekly trip data, city mileage, highway mileage, carbon footprint, emission rates, and gasoline levels through the cars onboard computer system. An emergency module was incorporated with roadside assistance, vehicle towing services and stolen vehicle assistance for an all-in-one customer service application experience. The vehicle’s diagnostic data was added to the application from maintenance logs and alerts to early diagnostics of vehicle components such as the engine, electrical parts, lamps and more. Alert monitoring was added to enhance driver awareness including geo-fencing alerts, speed alerts, and vehicle location data. To enhance data connectivity, PK established a Bluetooth connection between the smartphone and the InDrive device of the vehicle.
